Notes - Difficult to find out much about this person. His christian name is presumed from the best match BMD record for marriage, and Jessie is married and head, but there appear to be a lot of soldiers around.
The most promising is the 1871 Army list which also names him as a Sargeant in the Royal Engineers (ie a match to the marriage record), in the 32nd company, based in Portsmouth, Reg no 7143. The 1871 Census (and hence birth info) follows this.
The death info matches the date of his last child, the remarriage of Jessie and the fact that she is married but without her husband at the 1881 Census. The 1881 Census is consistent with this as he is in hospital, and the genealogical info is right though he is described as a clerk and timekeeper.
