Father William DELL Relationship natural Mother Mary HEARD, b. 1757, Crediton, Devon d. 1837, Bow, Devon
(Age 80 years)
Relationship natural Marriage 15 Nov 1781 Bow, Devon [7, 8]
Notes - This marriage is the only sensible William Dell marrying a Mary in Devon on IGI. This matches the transcriptions from the Devon FHS. There is another marriage at Burrington, towards Barnstable, in 1795, but there is no reason to assume this is more likely. It leaves a gap on IGI between this and the firstborn in 1782.
Some sites have the marriage year transcribed as 1792. I have picked 1781 as although the Bishops transcripts are just that, they are contemporaneous. IGI has the year of marriage transcribed as 1782.
Note - although the bishops transcription of the marriage says William came from Clannaborough and Mary from Bow, the transcript for their son Richard says "son of Wm and Mary Delve of Clannaborough"

Notes - At the 1871 Census, is Elizabeth, his wife, aged 55 and a grandaughter, Alice HALL, aged 4, born Bridgewater in Somerset.
I do not actually believe Elizabeth was his wife, though she may have been a common law wife - there is no consistent marriage records (there is one for 1861, when Susannah was still alive, but in Crediton, and I think this Elizabeth is actually her daughter). This makes sense for a number of records of Elizabeth (nee WREFORD) b1816 in Morchard Bishop, who married (a different) Henry DELVE 31/12/1839, and they appear with the daugher in the 1841 Census. I think that the Elizabeth in this census is Elizabeth Wreford, though the birthplace of North Tawton does not fit.
