Wad is assumed to be Wadsworth. Whilst some of the records describe the occupation of the father, I do not think there is such an occupation, rather it means, particularly near the Pennines a "steep sided ravine". So presumably this is where they lived, and therefore he is a labourer rather than have a skilled occupation.

Born Wadsworth and Heptonstall respectively. Not sure at the moment if these are a close relation or not.
