Notes - John was inducted into the Freemason Viator Lodge (in Fleet St., London) 21/7/1894, giving his address as his Balham home, and occupation as Saddler. However he was excluded in Jul 1897, and does not appear to have attended meetings in 1896 either.
The White Star officers records for William Francis Jackman (WFJ) has the address for JJ as
"The Nest" (as per 1911 Census) when WFJ joined in 1911, then
"Arden"(?), Crediton, N.Devon, then
"Noumea", Phillipps Avenue, when the form is closed, presumably Sept 1915
The 1914 Kellys Directory of Devon says he is living at Hilldown Manor, Bow. (Hilldown Manor Farm is in Hilldown Road, just south of the church at Nymet Tracey). The current postal address is Crediton so it is likely to be the same reference, just that the person writing WFJ's details did not hear correctly.
The report on the funeral from the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette of 30/8/1923 says "After retiring from business [in Long Acre], he settled down at Exmouth, where he resided for several years. He was 69.... and had been in failing health for some time."
