Violet M. "Vie" Roher, widow of Kalb Roher, of Hatboro, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Manor Care in Lansdale. Vie was born in 1919, in Altoona, Pa., to Thomas L. and Mry (Locke) Ross, who emigrated from Scotland.
A resident of Hatboro since 1950, she was very active in school, church and community organizations. Some of her activities included the local, regional and National Parent Teachers Association, the Women's Association of Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for more than 50 years, and the United Presbyterian Women. She also volunteered for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and Friends of the Norristown Public Library, and was a member of the Hatboro Friends Club, and the Solebury Farmers Club.
She was an avid collector of many things, including a later passion for dolls, and a member of Letitia Penn Doll Club of Philadelphia.
Vie graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., where she first met Kalb. She trained to be a registered nurse at Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing in New York, N.Y.
She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II.
A?er marrying in 1945, and while raising her family, she worked over the years in hospitals and geriatric facilities and as a private duty nurse throughout the Philadelphia area. She continued her a?iliation with Roosevelt Hospital for many years through a leadership role on the alumnae board of the school of nursing and in regular reunions with her 1943 graduating classmates.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kalb, in 1980, and by her siblings, William, David, George, Mildred and Lillian Ross.
She is survived by her four children, Douglas A. Roher and Arnold R. Roher and their families, all of Quakertown, Alice M. Roher of Providence, R.I., and Philip N. "Neb" Roher, and his family, of Hatboro.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Mrch 18, in James R. Baskwill Funeral Home, 20 W. Montgomery Ave., Hatboro (1/2 block west of York Road), and a?er 9:30 a.m. Monday in Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church, 1401 Meetinghouse Road, Warminster, where her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Somerton, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Juniata College, 1700 Moore St., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
