• Notes

  Parents were Henry and Joanne. At the 1851 Census, Henry is a Schoolmaster - general studies at Pottergate Street House Academy, about which I can not find much information. However having a father with education was probably beneficial. Arthur married Mary HAMMOND 21/11/1869 at Great Yarmouth and then Winifred Ethel FISK 17/12/1917 at St Dunstans in the City of London. In the 1868 Electoral Register he is at 23, Castle Meadow in Norwich, an Ironmongers Assistant, and again in 1870 (no details given). On 18/5/1878, in the Northampton Mercury, he informs everybody that he has taken over the (Ironmonger) business of the late Joseph PORTER at 58 Bridge St. At the same time he advertises for an apprentice. On 29/3/1884, the business is put up for sale, and a report in the paper of 5/4/1884 says that he is bankrupt as of 29/2/1884. While he died at a hospital in Brighton he gave his addresses as 138, Fetter Lane (cf John Jackman) and 14, Cliffords Inn in London
