  • Notes
    • Edward's school records from 1891 say that he started at Lanark Grammar School on 09 Sep 1891, having previously been at Burgh School, Lanark.
His address was given as Broomgate Street, Lanark, and "Parent's name and cccupation" was Waldie, Mrs. This is consistent with his father'd death in 1879.

His military records from the Imperial Yeomanry (signed at Lanark 6/1/1902), says he was a plasterer at that stage, apprenticed from 1895 to 1899 (unclear), and previously served in South Africa, presumably from 1899, and hence is not in the 1901 Census.
He was 5' 9.25", 154 lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He was a presbyterian (not C of E).
On 18/2/02, he was appointed to the 31st Btn, Imperial Yeomanry, and was discharged 20/9/1902 at Cape Colony. He stated he was going to remain in South Africa.
Hence he appears on his parents gravestone, saying he died in Durban. Note that the transcript says he died in 1949 aged 60. If he died in 1949, he would be 70.
