- George travelled to Boston and then Deerfield with his parents Job and Sarah and all their family in 1878. It is not obvious how he and Helen met.
Furthermore it is not obvious where he came from. The 1900 US census says he was born in England, the 1930 says he was born in Massachusets, and his father was born in England. There is no evidence of any variation of George Slocombe being born in 1871 in the GRO indices, nor any evidence of a Job and Sarah in the 1871 Census, together or even separately. If he was born in England, it is likely to have been in the SW, maybe Bristol, Somerset or Devon.
Is it possible that he was born in the US, and the 1878 trip was one back to Job's old country to see relatives?
In the 1900 US Census, he is 28, occ "Farm Laborer"
In the 1910 US Census, he is 38, occ "Farm Laborer"
In the 1930 US Census, he is 59, occ "Contractor"(?)
