Several newspapers reported a court case where he was accused of soliciting in 1885. See below. The case was not pursued, so there is no evidence for the veracity or otherwise of the charge.

The Supplement to the Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser of Sat November 14th 1885 is one of a number of papers:-
      Extraordinary Case at Macclefield
Considerable sensation has been caused in Macclesfield by a prosecution which has been instituted by the Treasury, under the Criminal Law Amendment Act, the principal defendent being William Cooper Reddish, a silk manufacturer in the town, and who, at the Borough Police-court on Wednesday, was charged with unlawfully attempting to procure a certain girl named Annie Jackson, under the age specified in the Act, for immoral purposes. Mary Brooks, seamstress, was charged with detaining Annie Jackson for an immoral purpose, and against the will of her parents.

(the report is on a page with a large number of similar reports that might be described as "tittle tattle")

The Manchester Evening News of Weds Nov 25th 1885 reports on the conclusion:-
      Abandonment of a Treasury Prosecution
At Macclesfield this morning the Town Clerk announced that the Treasury had decided not to proceed further in the charge against William C Reddish, silk manufacturer, Macclesfield, for prosecution for immoral purposes of a girl under the age of 18 years. The charge was laid under the Criminal Law Amendment Act, and several persons were charged with aiding and abetting Reddish. The defendants were discharged.

The act was passed into law on 14 Aug 1885, so not long before this incident, but was the culmination of a number of different measures aimed at strengthening consent and placing boundaries on brothels etc.
