  Henry John ALLEN does appear in Hertfordshire in the 1881 and 1891 Censuses (aged 10 and 20 respectively), son of Samuel and Elizabeth (nee BALL based on the burial records - his parents died in 1930 and 1931 respectively). But in 1891 he is a farm labourer. This is consistent with his occupation as labourer when he married and also marr cert has Samuel as father.
