Notes - In the baptism of his children in 1837, he is described as a Weaver.
Also a grandson, Henry Fielding aged 9, b Wadsworth
Also notice William Fielding (a 37) and his family just nearby in the 1841 Census.
It is very difficult to be sure about where James comes from. The name is extremely common, and so there is much guesswork. However, he does seem to have been very consistent about his age, leading to a DOB of 1803 give or take a year in the different censuses and also his birth place (Heptonstall), also giving this at his marriage. Assuming he was baptised within a few weeks of his birth, I have therefore identified the following possible people in Heptonstall:-
James Fielden bapt 20/4/1802 to William and Hannah
James Fielden bapt 3/10/1803 to Robert and Betty.
The latter has been used as Betty's maiden name was PICKLES, which is given to their son William.
There are a number of possible William and Hannah/Ann marriages, but none have this surname or anything like it.
At the 1871 Census, he was living in Midgley, about half way between Hebdon Bridge and Halifax. However most of his children were in Halifax, so a death registered in Halifax is reasonable, especially as the most likely scenario for Hannah is Halifax in 1870. Again there are two possibilities -
Q2 1873, aged 69
Q2 1878, aged 75
I have not yet found burial records for either of these possibilities. Clearly the first is arithmetically more accurate, but there is no real reason to favour this over the other one.
- In the baptism of his children in 1837, he is described as a Weaver.
