- Assuming that Robert and Elizabeth's marriage is in online records, and they were married in Merionethshire between 1770 and 1790, there are 2 possibilities, both with the same name for Elizabeth.Besides the one adopted, Robert Griffith married Elizabeth Griffith in Llandanwg in 1784.
I have picked the Dolgellau marriage partly because their son Robert appears to say he was born several miles to the East of Dolgellau, and therefore even further from Llandanwg, and partly because son Robert is a mason, as his his presumed father Robert, according to the baptism records, which include children born before 1784. I notice they got married by licence, which did have a cost associated with it. They were both from the same parish, but it might be just snobbery, or perhaps one of them was not Anglican, but it seems the most likely might be, assuming they were the parents of Griffith (and I think they were), then she would have been pregnant, and so there was a need for speed.....
