    • My father, who investigated this wrote:

"There appears to be no record on birth or marriage indexes. This person probably doesn't exist. The name was probably invented to ensure a more socially acceptable birth registration for the children"

When Emma marries, Frank is stated as deceased. So if this is true, he died before 2 Jun 1895.
Pro tem I am using birth and death dates based on my investigations to see what Ancestry throws up....born 1832 died 1889

Looking for any Frank (and variants) MERRINGTON anywhere in the UK, any dates, only one person crops up. This person and no other appears when looking for Frank (and variants) MERRINGTON (and variants) in Hertfordshire or within 20 miles. So this is my view of things:-

Frank, or more often Francis, appears in the following Censuses

1851 - Ploughboy in Hemel Hempstead
1861 - Ploughman at Brick Kiln, Northchurch, Berkhamstead
1871 - Ag Lab at same address
      1881 - as 1871

1859 Q1 marries Edith GARMENT in Berkhamstead

In 1871, he is a few miles from where Ann Meridon is, but both Ann and Frank's wife and daughters are straw plaiters. I just think that they got together and he is the father of Emma and Kate. Fanny appears to have been promiscuous and maybe Edith was too.
