The family story is that Laura's family thought he was not worthy of her daughter (he was probably still a miner, or at least a very insignificant white collar worker), and told Laura to break off the engagement and look for better prospects. However she was so unhappy that the family gave in, and supported (or were much happier about?) the wedding.

After Elsie's death, he married Gwladys Louisa NICOL (nee WILLIAMS) (b 7/9/1889, 11, St Peters Sq, Ruthin) at the Welsh Calvanistic Methodist Chapel, Birmingham 21/4/1937. She died 3/3/1963 at the same address as Hubert died a month later. [NB - all this family information, not verified]
He was Paul's mother's paternal grandfather
