• Notes

  Charles appears to have been known as Henry Charles for most of his life. However he was baptised Charles Henry, so this is used. He marries Ellen Jane A CROUCH Oct qtr 1896, Gravesend. His occupation is given as a steward on a ship. Somewhat frustratingly it has been logged in a report in the Gravesend and Northfleet Standard of 3/1/1913, but the search engine cannot locate the article. The summary on BNA says that he was fatally injured while fulfilling his duties as a steward on Atlantis Transport Liner ?Ifinneepolis?. I have found nothing more on this, but his probate mentions 3, Royal Pier, Gravesend as his place of abode when he died. This is the same address as given by his (married) wife when she filled in the 1911 Census. So he was away for some while.
