| Marries Henry BAKEWELL 23/4/1889 at St Mary Magdelene, Southwark. There is also a marriage to Samuel ROGERS 29/11/1874 at St Stephen, Rochester Row between Harriet Caroline DESBOROUGH and Samuel ROGERS, but the given age of the bride is 21 (Harriet would be 17, so possible that she would lie, and therefore be consistent with her 1889 marriage as one of spinster). If this is the same person, she (with the correct age) and Samuel are living at the same address in 1881 as Henry BAKEWELL, who is likely to be the person she marries in 1889. However there is no record of Samuel ROGERS dying in the relevant timeframe. Note that 1911 Census says they have been married 30 years, but this is clearly a typo or more likely an arithmetic mistake | DESBOROUGH, Harriet (I540)
| Marries Henry David LAKE 1/3/1885 at Holy Trinity, Lambeth | IMPEY, Caroline Emily (I412)
| Marries Jane BERRY 10/4/1898, Bethnal Green. | BROWN, Walter Charles (I104)
| Marries John WARD 20/10/1866 at Tostock. Betsey is not obvious in the 1911 Census, nor is there an obvious death in the Manchester area between 1901 and 1911. | OTTLEY, Betsey (I279)
| Marries Joseph Holaroyde SEEDS 25/12/1914 at St Pauls, Newington. Possible burial 1/5/1933, Islington (this is Henrietta STAPLETON, though the GRO death index has it as SEEDS). | STAPLETON, Lottie Henrietta (I315)
| Marries Lily around 1908. | MERRIDAN, Bertie James (I1299)
| Marries Louisa SIMS Jul qtr 1889, Portsea Death details are believed to be valid - the name and his widow are consistent, also consistent with the age given on the BMD details. | HULL, William George (I1109)
| Marries Lydia MEAD 26/8/1888 at St John's, Brixton | HOLLINGSWORTH, Thomas Edward (I574)
| Marries Mary CRAY 11 Jan 1875 at St John, Waterloo Road, Lambeth | MORRIS, Charles Watkins (I1335)
| Marries Mary Louisa HARMON at St Annes, Tottenham on 22/2/1903 | GUY, John Richard (I1022)
| Marries Nellie MAWBIE Apr qtr 1898 in Ross, Hertfordshire | BENNETT, George (I611)
| Marries Pamela Alice COOK 12/8/1888 in Brentnor in Devon. There are a number of internet sites suggesting he emigrated to Perth in Western Australia, though I have not found evidence that it is this Richard who went. Either way he is not obvious after 1911 Census. | BENNETT, Richard (I868)
| marries Robert C KENDALL 1931 | HOPKINS, Constance Frances Victoria (I480)
| Marries Sarah PRYOR 21 Jul 1838 in Gt. Gaddesden. Both George and Sarah say they lived at Flamstead. Slightly strangely George says he is a Blacksmith. Since he almost certainly is Ag Lab, and this is the most obvious marriage information, So for whatever reason he amplified his position. | PIKE, George (I1212)
| Marries Walter SNOW in Tottenham 25/1/1896. They appear to emigrate to the USA in 1905 and feature in the 1910 Federal Census and subsequent censusses. They both appear to be in Cook County, Chicago at the 1950 US Census, and hence the presumed death and burial information for Kate. If this information is correct, then it is highly likely that Walter died in 1952 and is buried in the same cemetery as Kate. Internet trees say she died 19 Sep but there is no obvious evidence for this. | GUY, Kate (I921)
| Marries William EADES Dec 1847 qtr, Portsea vol 7, page 314 At the 1851 Census, she is lodging with George RICHARDSON and his family. Her daughter Sarah is there, but not her husband. In 1861 he is not their either, but her occupation, stating that of William's maybe explains this. For both these Censuses, the age given may relate to William rather than her, hence the discrepancy. At the 1911 Census she states that she has 3 children, all still alive. She also says she was married for 40 years. | HULL, Sarah (I1115)
| Marries William EARP St Thomas, Portsmouth 22/1/1877. At 1881 Census, her husband is the licensee of the Great Western Tavern, for which her father George was previously the licensee. | NOTTING, Ellen Jane (I1259)
| Marries William GRAY 2/6/1895 at St Anne's, Tottenham | GUY, Rose (I1029)
| Marries William James MAY Q3 1906 in Uckfield, Sussex | BEECH, Mabel Juniper (I922)
| Marries William John GROVES Q3 1883, Portsea Island. She was buried in unconsecrated ground | GUY, Eva Jane (I1198)
| Marries William Nicholls BURDELL 1 Jun 1879 at St Marys, Lambeth | MORRIS, Eliza Emily (I1338)
| Marries William Richard BURRELL 4/11/1846 at St Peter Mancroft, Norwich. William appears as a farmer or farm manager in the Censuses after 1851, and so following his death between 1871 and 1881, she appears to take over. We know that Skyles was rich or had contacts or both, so maybe there was money from him too. | JUNIPER, Elizabeth Kernison (I988)
| Marries William WEBBER 8/4/1857 at Marylebone Parish Church. William was living in South Moulton, Devon at the time of their marriage, and so presumably knew Elizabeth (nee Jackman) and other Jackmans. | WILKEY, Elizabeth (I770)
| Martha Desborough is not obvious after this date. There are no suitable entries in the death registers. There is a record of somebody of the right age at the Fulham workhouse 28/2/1876-1/3/1876, but nothing in the 1871 Census if that is her. There is a marriage to John CROOK in 1880, but the subsequent censuses are not consistent | DESBOROUGH, Martha (I531)
| Mary may have gone on to marry Joseph CASSELL or CASTLE in 1798 | PARISH, Mary (I657)
| Mary MOORE married William VEY in West Lulworth 1811 however it the earlier Banns she is MORES. There are a large number of possible Mary Moore/Mores, but this picked because it matches a possible and reasonable death, and also because it is West Lulworth. | MORES, Mary (I1084)
| Mary St is now Waley St | WEBB, Sarah Elizabeth (I159)
| Mary's surname deduced from this being the only reasonable marriage I can find online with Thomas Tubb. | Family: Thomas TUBB / Mary KERLEY (F382)
| May have been baptised Susannah Confusingly there is an Ann Splat who is buried in 1708, but the baptism transcript for our Anne says her mother is Ann, so it is likely her who died in 1708. She may have died in 1739 (ie just after the youngest child I have here), though this is probably a different Anne. If so, she most likely died 1781, but there is no reason to pick this other than it is the most likely South Tawton burial. | SPLATT, Anne (I636)
| May have died Norwich Jul qtr 1897 | PETTITT, Robert (I336)
| Maybe buried Aug 19th 1789 Benington, but this seems the best option. It does have her age correct and also notes she is a widow | IZZARD, Sarah (I380)
| Merchant Navy records indicate that he was 5' 6.5", blue or grey eyes, either "medium" or "fair" complexion, brown hair. He joined the Training Ship "Mersey" in 1911 and then acted as midshipman rising to Acting Lieutenant in WW1, as part of the Royal Naval Reserve. On 4/9/1918 he was promoted from Acting Lieut to Lieutenant. White Star Officers books records the following information:- Joined the Mersey on 5/9/1911 In Aug 1914 with the outbreak of WW1, he transferred to the armed merchant cruiser "Cedric" He completed his indenture in Sept 1915 He was "proficient in Euclid and Algebra". His height was 5' 6" The Royal Naval Reserve list of 1919 records that he became sub lieutenant on 4/9/1916, when serving on the "Albatross" The most likely match appears to be a torpedo boat (or "C" class) destroyer launched in 1898. Wikipedia states that in 1916 she was at Scapa Flow providing anti submarine defence for the fleet. The only mention I can find relating to Jutland is in supporting HMS Malborough when it was hit - the ship is mentioned for 1st June 1916 After WW1 he became 1stMate Feb 1921, and his address is given as 60, Park Road, Lowestoft. He became a Master Nov 1922. In the context of his father's funeral in Aug 1923, the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette says he "was away at sea" to explain his non appearance at the funeral. In WW2, he was a prisoner at Stalag Luft 3, in the rank of Acting Flying Officer. He was an excellent sportsman, and there are a number of cups from his time at Sherborne Grammar School. A number of additional facts are provided by Nick Fenton in his website www.kenfentonswar.com. Ken Fenton was the pilot of a Blenheim IV of 139 Squadron, which was shot down on return from a bombing raid and ditched in the North Sea 12.48pm on 1st July 1941. At 15.30, Air Sea Rescue were alerted and boat HSL 108 (captained by WFJ) was launched from Gorleston in Norfolk. (Other sites confirm this was the 24 Air Sea Rescue Unit). HSL 108 was captured in the North Sea by the Germans that evening after a flying boat attack from Ar 196 and the crew were picked up by Hs 59 and taken to a port near Amsterdam. WFJ reports that he was in the following camps: Amsterdam 2/7/41-7/7/41 Dulagluft 7/7/41-9/7/41 Oflag IX A/H 9/7/41- Sept 41 Oflag VI B Sept 41-Aug 42 Oflag XXI B Aug 42- Mar 43 Stalag Luft III Mar 43- 29/4/45 (Oflag were camps for Officers). Stalag Luft III was the camp in Poland from which the "Great Escape" happened, though as far as I can tell WFJ had not part in any way on this. But he did take part in the great march back into Germany ahead of the advancing Russians. See also separate document on this. 1939 register address is maybe now either 23a Water Lane or more likely 25 Water Lane. | JACKMAN, William Francis (I687)
| Most likely burial Lulworth 24 June 1789 | VIE, John (I1020)
| most likely deaths (ie before 1851 Census) include 1844, Q3 in Shoreditch 1845 St George Hannover Sq | TAYLOR, George Charles (I209)
| Most likely died 1846, but may have remarried 1792 | MAYNARD, Elizabeth (I359)
| Most likely from the internet records is that she was baptised 16 Jul 1767, as it is the only rough match for Willian. If so she is the daughter of John and Susan. Possibly died Apr qtr 1845, but this is just a possible match, not the only possibility. | GILES, Mary (I363)
| most likely is death Oct qtr, Southwark, aged 0, vol 1d, p87. Certainly he does not appear to be in other records. | DESBOROUGH, Alfred (I598)
| Most likely is that she married Thomas SMITH in Jan qtr 1860, Steyning. She appears to be in Salford at the 1861 Census with a daughter of 11 (maybe should be 11 months), born in Shoreham. She probably dies Oct qtr 1864 at Steyning. | JUNIPER, Mary Amelia Taylor (I1101)
| Most likely marriage is to Eliza HARVEY 2/3/1879 St Andrews, Islington (the only slight problem is his father John is given as a timber merchant; but this is close to reality). Assuming this is so the other census data listed is sensible. | HOWE, Charles (I905)
| most likely marriage Jun qtr 1897 to Grace Gertrude H HARVEY Brentford have found marriage licence May 1897 There is a very extensive Naval career, details attached. He is sometimes known as Rear Admiral WV Juniper of Kensington. More details in a separate document, but summary of his naval career as follows:- On 15 Jan 1891, he is noted as “addl for change of R????? S????”. On 1 Oct 1891 he transfers to the Victory. On 19 Apr 1895, he is promoted from Engineer to Chief Engineer On 2 Apr 1899, he is promoted to Staff Engineer (Engineer Commander according to the Navy List of 1907) On 1 Apr 1912, he is promoted to Engineer Captain On 28 Nov 1916 he is promoted to Engineer Rear Admiral. He was made CB in an announcement dated 27 June 1919 - “For valuable services in the 8th and 6th Battle Squadrons, at the Dardanelles, and on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Nore | JUNIPER, William Vey (I1034)
| Most likely married Frank Francis LEA Q4, 1905, and that defines the later records used. For instance although the DOB is different in the 1939 Register, the 1911 Census places her with her parents..... | STAPLETON, Jessie Victoria (I316)
| Most likely option seems to be she was unmarried and was buried in Offley (about 15miles away) 2/3/1836, age given as 80. | IMPEY, Ann (I455)
| Most likely parents are Thomas and Sarah, assuming a baptism Jan 1786 at St Albans. | PIKE, Joseph (I219)
| most likely scenario is that she married Frank AKERMAN 11/4/1925, and this means her death was 1986 and her birth given then is 20 Nov 1901, which also matches 1939 Register. Note also the 1939 Register has a (widow) Helma(?) STAPLETON born 17/2/1866; maybe an aunt? | STAPLETON, Margaret Ethel Dorothy (I314)
| Most likely to be 8/5/1814, father (or mother?) given as Innkeeper | VYE, Jane (I1058)
| Most of the information for the family makes sense, but there are still some uncertainties. The marriage of William and Ann notes that William came from Gt Yarmouth and Ann from Somerlyton, which is possibly a reason for them moving there. I would like to have found an Ann baptised in Yarmouth immediately after the marriage, who might then have died, but cannot see any such person. The chosen marriage also has a marriage licence, in which William is noted as a mariner. The licence is dated 25 Aug, hence the marriage is assumed to have taken place in Aug, and very probably on the same day as the licence was provided. Somerleyton and Herringfleet are very close to each other, so it is reasonable that the younger children were baptised in Herringfleet. Although there is a William and Elizabeth there, there does not seem to be an obvious alternative couple to our one, though there is a William Ellis marrying Susannah Marshal in Gt Yarmouth in 1758. The fact that there is a record of this Ann dieing in Herringfleet but being buried in Somerleyton is very significant. | Family: William ELLIS / Ann CHAPMAN (F353)
| Most probably marries Susannah HOOPER 2/10/1811 in Willian. Susannah maybe was bapt 21/7/1793 in Willian to Benjamin and Mary, and died Jul qtr 1845. Whilst there is no particular reason to assume this is right, it is believable, and is the basis for the 1841 Census details adopted. The 1841 Census also has a 15 year old girl. Ancestry translates it as "Mary Matthews", however there definitely appears to be a "ditto" symbol over the edge of the box. The 1851 Census, assuming it is still the same person, and this is likely given the occupation given, has Mary HILLSDEN, wife of Charles. The later information for this Mary has in some records a likely Mary Martha Hooper HILLSDEN, and so almost certainly the person baptised in Willian in 1826 to James and Susan. "Mary Martha Do." is definitely a possible transliteration of the entry in the 1841 Census, and hence the later Censuses for James are considered reasonable. | IMPEY, James (I406)
| Much of what is here for William and his ancestry is definitely speculative. But key is that his marriage to Martha states his father is Henry. So this is based on the only Henry that I can find - who married Virtue (slightly strangely, she is in Corfe Castle, though the IGI info has her baptised in Lulworth; so maybe she was working in Corfe, albeit it is a long way away). One site on the internet says they were cousins. There is also another William VEY who married Maria COCHRAN in 1811 and clearly some of the possible children come from that marriage. I have taken the approach that those who have Mary rather than Maria as a mother are those of this William and Mary marriage. Note also that although I cannot find William in the 1841 Census, there is Jane and Mary at Alverstoke (near Gosport), so it is likely that William was at sea? Merchant Seamans ticket for a William VEY of Winfrith, tkt no 249,016 Also see the following typical data from the internet, some of which is definitely incorrect. http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/24138740/family?fpid=1499481927 and http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/3396898/person/-628306944 | VYE, William (I1032)
| My father, who investigated this wrote: "There appears to be no record on birth or marriage indexes. This person probably doesn't exist. The name was probably invented to ensure a more socially acceptable birth registration for the children" When Emma marries, Frank is stated as deceased. So if this is true, he died before 2 Jun 1895. Pro tem I am using birth and death dates based on my investigations to see what Ancestry throws up....born 1832 died 1889 Looking for any Frank (and variants) MERRINGTON anywhere in the UK, any dates, only one person crops up. This person and no other appears when looking for Frank (and variants) MERRINGTON (and variants) in Hertfordshire or within 20 miles. So this is my view of things:- Frank, or more often Francis, appears in the following Censuses 1851 - Ploughboy in Hemel Hempstead 1861 - Ploughman at Brick Kiln, Northchurch, Berkhamstead 1871 - Ag Lab at same address 1881 - as 1871 1859 Q1 marries Edith GARMENT in Berkhamstead In 1871, he is a few miles from where Ann Meridon is, but both Ann and Frank's wife and daughters are straw plaiters. I just think that they got together and he is the father of Emma and Kate. Fanny appears to have been promiscuous and maybe Edith was too. | MERRINGTON, Frank (I18)
| My parents knew or remembered her as Diana | FENTON, Kate (I689)
